The Northern Spirit Chapter is proud to offer our “Spirit of Aviation” award. It is awarded in recognition of outstanding achievements and their dedication to the aviation community. Two winners will receive a Conference Package including registration, a one-year membership to Women in Aviation International, travel and accommodations to attend the International Women in Aviation Conference. Our objective is to inspire and foster the winner’s career through their experiences at the WAI Conference. Preference will be give to an individual who would otherwise not be able to attend without financial assistance.

How will attending the WAI Conference inspire and motivate you to reach your dreams?
Send us your current resume and a 1000-1500 word essay, a 5-10 minute video, OR a creative digital document telling us about yourself. What are your career goals? How did you get to where you are today? What inspires and motivates you? Be creative but don't over-think it, we know the timeline is tight for the application deadline. Be authentic, be yourself and tell your story! We genuinely want to send two phenomenal women to the conference (YES, THIS COULD BE YOU!) to launch your career, support your dreams, and provide the most amazing experience connecting with other women in aviation!
This scholarship is open to all women involved in any aviation and aerospace related field. Applicants must have a valid passport, eligible to travel to the United States, and be available to travel for the conference dates.
Not sure where to start? Here are some points to inspire your creativity:
- what are your aviation history and goals and what you have done to work towards your goals
- how will attending the conference help you achieve your career objective
- previous educational scholarships, awards and honours
- where you see yourself in 5 and 10 years
- your current involvement in aviation activities in your community or other non-aviation organizations

Q&A
Q: What’s included in the Conference Package?
A: Winners will receive the Full Conference Registration which includes all scheduled events in the conference package including the Connect Reception and Celebration Dinner, travel to Los Angeles KLAX from their nearest airport plus transfer to and from the hotel, and four nights accommodation at a registered conference hotel.
*Winners are responsible for food and beverages not included in their conference registration and any additional costs.
Q: There are additional tours, seminars and workshops, can I sign up for these?
A: Yes, you may sign up for additional events however the costs incurred for events outside of the Full Registration package will be your responsibility.
Q: I would like to travel to Los Angeles before the conference dates or stay after the conference is over, can I plan outside the conference dates?
A: If flights are available on alternate dates we will happily book you. Accommodations will be provided for the conference dates Feb 22-26 only, If you would like to travel ahead or after the scheduled conference accommodations and airport transfers are your responsibility.
Q: I’m not a Women in Aviation, International member, can I still apply?
A: Yes, absolutely. Our scholarship winners will receive a WAI renewal or new 1 year membership
Q: I don’t have a valid passport, can I still apply?
A: Unfortunately not, a valid passport is required to make airline reservations. Passports should be valid for a period that extends 6 months past the date of travel.
Q: I’m a minor (under age 18), can I still apply?
A: Unfortunately we cannot award the scholarship to a minor. The winner must be able to travel to Los Angeles unaccompanied. The hotel also requires guests to be a minimum of 21 years old.
Q: I’m not working in an aviation related field, can I apply for this scholarship?
A: Yes, absolutely! All aviation enthusiasts, those in the midst of their careers, students enrolled in flight school, aviation & aerospace college or university programs are eligible to apply.
Q: How do I submit my application?

Q: I’m a pilot, do you want copies of my logbook pages?
A: No, just indicate in your resume your flight hours.
