On Friday September 22, 2023 the ninth annual Girls in Aviation Day will be hosted by Women in Aviation chapters around the world. Girls in Aviation Day is an opportunity for the aviation and aerospace community to promote the exciting and rewarding careers available to women. With accomplished female role models, Girls in Aviation Day is an event where girls aged 8-17 can explore careers available to them in the aviation and aerospace industries.
WAI’s Girls in Aviation Day was recognized as an “industry best practice” along with EAA Young Eagles and AOPA’s high school initiative in a study entitled Aviation Outreach Model and Gap Analysis: Examining Solutions to Address Workforce Shortages, conducted by Dr. Rebecca Lutte, Assistant Professor at University of Nebraska, Omaha Aviation Institute. Lutte stated in her study: “Women in Aviation International serves as a primary example of a non-profit organization implementing outreach that is aimed at underrepresented groups.”
Our local Chapter, Northern Spirit, will be hosting 250 girls and their parents at a fun-filled event with interactive activities and inspirational guest speakers. We are inviting local businesses to build partnerships with Women in Aviation, International. Our hope is that by working together, we can make Girls in Aviation Day a huge success and inspire more girls to seek careers in aviation and aerospace fields that have traditionally been dominated by men. Sponsors will be invited to participate in the Career Exhibition where girls and parents can get information on aviation and aerospace businesses, organizations, as well as learn about the educational pathways that lead to exciting careers right here in Manitoba.
