The Northern Spirit Chapter is proud to once again offer our “Spirit of Aviation” scholarship. This scholarship is awarded in recognition of outstanding achievements and their dedication to the aviation community. One winnipeg will receive a Conference registration, a one-year membership to Women in Aviation International, as well as travel and lodging to attend the 31st International Women in Aviation Conference in Florida taking place on March 5-7, 2020. Our objective is to inspire and foster the winner’s career through their experiences at the WAI Conference. Preference will be give to an individual who would otherwise not be able to attend without financial assistance.

Connect

Our scholarship winners will get the opportunity to connect with other women in the aviation industry and make new invaluable networking connections.

Engage

Attending a WAI conference allows you to be completely engaged in aviation.  It allows you to re-connect with your passion and your career goals.

Inspire

Whether you are inspired by the women you meet or the speakers you listen to, or the stories you hear, you will undoubtedly come home inspired after attending a conference.

Winners will be announced on February 10th 2020.

This scholarship is open to all women involved in any aviation related field. The winners must have a valid passport or have acquired a passport by February 10th, 2020 and be able to travel on the dates to the conference. Applications must include the following information:
  • Completed application form
  • Current resume
  • 2 recommendation letters
  • A 500-1000 word typed descriptive essay covering the following topics:
  • your aviation history and goals and what you have done to achieve your goals
  • how the scholarship will help you achieve your career objective
  • previous educational scholarships, awards and honours
  • where you see yourself in 5 and 10 years
  • your current involvement in aviation activities in your community or other non-aviation organizations

​Q&A
 
Q: I’m not a Women in Aviation, International member, can I still apply?
A: Yes, you can still apply.  Just indicate on the application form that you are not a WAI member.
 
Q: I don’t have a valid passport, can I still apply?
A: Unfortunately no, airfare will be booked in February and a valid passport is required to make airline reservations. Passports must be valid for a period that extends 6 months past the date of travel.
 
Q: I’m a minor (under age 18), can I still apply?
A: Unfortunately we cannot award the scholarship to a minor. The winner must be able to travel to the Orlando unaccompanied. The hotel requires guests to be a minimum of 21 years old.
 
Q: I’m not working in an aviation related field, can I apply for this scholarship?
A: Yes, all aviation enthusiast and students enrolled in an aviation program, flight school, college or university program are eligible to apply. 
 
Q: Do I need to print my application package and mail it in?
A: No, we ask that you attach all of your documents into an email and send it to us at ywgspirit@gmail.com to save time and expenses on printing and postage.
 
Q: Do you want my references to email you directly?
A: No, please include all your documents including your reference letters in one email application.
 
Q: I’m a pilot, do you want copies of my logbook pages?
A: No, just indicate in your resume your flight hours.
 
Q: What’s included in the Conference Registration?
A: Full Registration includes all scheduled events in the conference package including the Connect Beach Party, Luncheon, and Celebration Dinner. Winner is responsible for food and beverages not included in their conference registration and any additional costs.
 
Q: There are additional tours, seminars and workshops, can I sign up for these?
A: Yes, you may sign up for additional events however the costs incurred for events outside of the Full Registration package will be your responsibility.
